On December 10, Japan Airlines revealed its inaugural route for its brand new Airbus A350-1000. The aircraft will serve the route between Tokyo Haneda International Airport to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. This will begin on January 24 2024 and operate as a daily service to New York, with tickets going on sale beginning 11 December.

The service from Haneda to New York will depart Tokyo at 11:05 local time and arrive in New York at 10:00 local time. From March 10 to March 30 we will see this change slightly, with the arrival time in New York being 11:00 local time. In terms of the return flight we will see it depart New York at 12:40 local time and arrive in Tokyo at 17:15 local time the following day. We will see one more schedule change from March 10 to March 29, making departure time from New York 13:40 local time.

We will also see Japan Airlines add a new service to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport from Haneda International Airport in Tokyo. Although there are no set dates for this route, the airline has stated that it will begin service on this route shortly after the airline receives its third A350-1000.

With 13 A350-1000 currently on order, Japan Airlines are set to replace the airline’s fleet of thirteen ageing Boeing 777-300ERs. This will improve fuel efficiency and provide travellers with a reduction of noise in the cabin. They have also announced that they will aim to replace 1% of fuel onboard with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on all flights to Japan. This will help reduce CO2 emissions and help with the sustainability efforts within the aviation industry.
