LATAM Begins flying non-stop between Sydney and Santiago
LATAM began nonstop flights between Sydney and Santiago in October after seeing an increase in demand from Australian travellers wanting to visit South America.

LATAM began nonstop flights between Sydney and Santiago in October after seeing an increase in demand from Australian travellers wanting to visit South America. The existing route from Sydney to Santiago via Auckland has been a consistent favourite for travellers, and the non-stop flight has been completely sold out for the 2024 holidays. We were lucky enough to grab one of these flights from Sydney to Auckland on the LATAM 787 Business Class product. Read about it here.

LATAM 787-9

LATAM will operate the non-stop services four times a week in addition to the route via Auckland and three times a week from Melbourne. This new service will open up over 200,000 seats annually between Australia and South America, and the airline will operate its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

LATAM hopes to replicate the initial success of the route introduced in 2019. Thanks to the short flight time of only 13 hours, a 4-hour reduction compared to the Auckland stopover service, increased frequencies, and accessibility to more destinations, this flight has sparked renewed interest among travellers exploring South America.

What To Expect

Business Class travellers flying the non-stop route will be treated to the comfortable 1-2-1 cabin layout and the latest LATAM Business Class Suite, designed to prioritise rest and privacy. It features fully flat beds and access to USB ports for charging personal devices. Meanwhile, via Auckland, travellers will be flying in the older 2-2-2 Business Class Cabin, which, while an older product, is still comfortable during the flight. We recently flew with LATAM to Auckland and thought the flight was comfortable, but it was disappointing not to experience the new product.

Australian travellers will be able to visit the Qantas Business Class lounges at both Sydney and Melbourne airports before boarding—but keep an eye on the departure board. There was confusion with our flight, but the lounge was close to the gate, so it was easy to navigate.
