For the first time in five years, Oman Air has revealed plans to launch its first new route. This marks the start of a strategy to maximise the utilisation of its narrowbody fleet.

The New Route

The airline has made its most significant announcement of a new route to the Italian capital, Rome, marking its first new destination in five years.

This route is set to launch on December 20 of this year, with four flights per week, adding to the airline’s existing service to Milan. Guests will be able to fly with Oman Air from Muscat to Rome on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

The outbound flight departs from Muscat at 15:00 and arrives in Rome at 19:30, while the return flight departs Rome at 20:30 and arrives in Muscat at 05:45. As one of the most visited cities in the world, Oman Air is excited to add Rome to their network.

Oman Airways will also be optimising its fleet by exclusively operating with Boeing 787-9 aircrafts for widebody services. By mid-2026, it will transition to a 737-8 fleet for narrowbody operations.

From Oman Airways

CEO Con Korfiatis has outlined the airline’s goals to become economically self-sufficient by 2027 and strengthen its role in Oman’s tourism industry.

“We see good outbound opportunities for Oman, as well as inbound traffic from Italy, particularly during our peak season,” Korfiatis said.

“Our new direct service between Rome and Muscat represents an exciting step in our growth. Marking our second destination in Italy, [the first being Milan], this key route not only enhances our footprint in Europe, but also marks the start of our strategy to maximise the utilisation of our narrow-body fleet.”

“We are thrilled to introduce the beautiful city of Muscat to a whole new market, as well as offer seamless and convenient access to destinations beyond,” said Korfiatis.
